Mr Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal is the story of Maggie Hope. Maggie was born in London but sent to live with her Aunt in America after her parents died in a car accident. She returns to London when she inherits her grandmother’s home, in the hope of selling it. But, when World War II begins Maggie stays in London with a group of girls living in the home with her. Though she graduated from an American college at the top of her class the best job she can find to fit her is a typist for Winston Churchill. Soon Maggie finds herself learning more about her family’s past and secrets and caught up in a spy ring.
I enjoyed the character Maggie. She is strong, but also searching to figure out who she really is. The story moved quickly and by the end I couldn’t put it down. Though there were a few facts that didn’t seem to fit with the time period and some things fell into place a little to conveniently I still found it a fun read.
This is the first book in a series and I’ll be reading more in the series.
