In The Anatomist’s Wife by Anna Lee Huber I have found a new series that I think I am going to love. The Anatomist’s Wife is the first book in the Lady Darby Mystery series. The book takes place in Scotland in 1830. Lady Kiera Darby’s husband has recently died and because of circumstances involving her deceased husband Lady Darby goes to her sister’s estate to be by herself and be with family.
While there, her sister and her sister’s husband throw a house party and one of the guests is murdered. Because of Lady Darby’s knowledge of anatomy she is asked to work with Sebastian Gage, also a guest and an inquiry agent, to discover what happened.
I really enjoyed this book. I was immediately taken in with Lady Darby who does not fit in with her social peers. She is different and I enjoyed her reflections on why she was different and I felt like I really got to know her as a character. By the end she was a character I really liked and am eager to continue reading the series and getting to know her more.
Not only did The Anatomist’s Wife have a great character but also a great mystery. It was fun watching Lady Darby and Gage as they worked together to solve the mystery. By the end I couldn’t put the book down because of all the suspense!
I can’t wait to start the second book in the series!
